GEEK: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. WAS GREAT LAST NIGHT, BUT CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE WITH RATINGS

A major twist and a blockbuster film could not help Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. get over the hump with viewers.

On ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D  hit a new series low with a 1.7 down three tenths from last week’s 2.0 adults 18-49 rating.

However, expect some pick up when you factor in the Live+7 numbers. Shows like the Voice do not see as great a delayed viewing skew compared with shows like MOAS, which are popular with young viewers who are not beholden to time-slots.

Still the concern for this show mounts as they line up 7 straight episodes on 7 straight weeks without interruption. More guest stars and cameos are promised as the season continues through the major shift in story. More noticeable has been the change in tone. Less jokey and more serious snark has played a role in the last few episodes.

I think more people (fanboys) should be attracted to the show with the shift from establishing these characters to a focus on a serialized storyline. The show is heading somewhere, and if you miss it, you could miss when the Marvel Cinematic Universe if going too.
