MOVIES: PIXAR GIVES DETAILS ON INSIDE-OUT

Pixar has been a little quiet in the wake of Disney’s recent chain of hits. The last Pixar feature, in name, released was the underrated, but financially dominate Monsters University in June 2013.  Just 2 months later, the hackneyed Planes was released through Disney animation as a spin-off of Pixar’s Cars franchise. Many were critical of Disney’s move to crib off its own material from Pixar. Critics has also been hard on Pixar recent output, which has been made up of primarily sequels and spin-offs.

Planes made made a lot of money for Disney, but not the usual Pixar kind of money. Nor did this new film provide as much critical acclaim for the studio, like previous efforts like Brave and Up.

Now, details are coming out about its upcoming new movie called Inside-Out. Inside-Out appears to be Pixar returning to original material. Pixar’s website gives us a full description of the project, which is due out on June 19, 2015.

In 2015, he [director Pete Docter] will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city,
house and school.

Whether Inside-Out will lead to a Pixar renaissance, is yet to be seen. Other upcoming Pixar films include:
