GEEK: THE JUSTICE LEAGUE WE COULD HAVE HAD

I’m assuming that these people are still receiving money from the WB for their roles that were cast before the writer’s strike blew up the proposed George Miller project. Looks like a fun crew. I would have killed to see their Aquaman.

I think now that we have these pics then it won’t be long before we see the characters in their costumes.

GEEK: HOW MUCH SPIDER-MAN CAN YOU HANDLE?

Green Goblin Seizes Sony, Promises To Overexpose Spider-Man Franchise To Death With Yearly Films

The franchise has barely gotten off the ground after the first installment, but @SONY is moving forward with its plans for an expanded universe of films featuring the wall-crawler. One has to admire their tenacity, but also has to question whether they aren’t painting themselves into a corner. Most genre fans would still love to see mutants, web-heads and Avengers combine efforts in a a huge film. @SONY’s choice seems to take this off the board with a further commitment to more individual flicks.

Another concern for me is that The Amazing Spider-Man was a middling success, in my opinion, in that it did not tank and now director Marc Webb has been signed for the 3rd feature. I would think that they loved his aesthetic, which also appreciated, but the level of action did not push any envelopes. If I’m SONY I would seriously consider a change at the top just for the vision of the film.

Now, TASM sequel looks to be epic, if not cluttered. Lots of bad guys, humor, action, and stakes. Where does Spidey go after this? If we are to assume that Gwen Stacey dies (SPOILER), then what will Spidey fight for in his next film. What if they didn’t put a woman in peril in his films at all? Spidey is supposed to be a limited superhero in that he is really a poor struggling kid who can’t make any money doing what he’s best at. Somehow, this geek always has women who love him implicitly and also get in trouble. I think to truly push the character, you need to move him beyond Gwen and Mary Jane. Unfortunately for SONY, they can’t touch S.H.I.E.L.D., the Fantastic Four, or the X-Men, all groups that Spidey has been a part of at one time or another.

@SONY has been very up front with their desire to have their own mega-franchise involving Spidey. They have gone as far as offering up the Sinister Six for their own films as well. How you have a film about bad guys without good guys, has me scratching my head.

This does make me wonder about Andrew Garfield’s involvement in the future films, which the actor has said is only through the third film. If Garfield is no longer involved past Spidey 3, then would they consider using Spider-Woman or Miles Morales? I would hope that either is a possibility since it offers the audience alternatives to the white male archetype of a hero.

Geek: Rain and Superheroes

What is it about rain that gets all the superheroes so worked up?

We talk about class to class examples of the here at Rosedale but somehow in all of these tales rain gets superheroes horny.

1. Spiderman:

2. Daredevil (at 1:19)

3. The Dark Knight rises

4. The Wolverine (no video available yet)

However, this is probably just a film trope:
